• Gimli - Mines of Moria

This is the plastic Gimli from the Mines of Moria Starter Set. He's quite a good sculpt, although he's crying out for sculpted detail on the vambraces, shoulder armor, and robes. The pose is good though, with an axe in each hand, ready for battle. I started by cleaning up the flash on the mini, then undercoating with Chaos Black. The small amount of visible face was painted with Tanned Flesh, then layered with Dwarf Flesh, and small highlights with Elf Flesh. The face was then washed with Ogryn Flesh. Beard and hair was painted with Scorched Brown, then individual strands painted with Tanned Flesh, and highlighted with Terracotta. The various gold clips and rings in his hair and beard were painted with Shining Gold, and highlighted with Burnished Gold. His robes and pants were painted with Red Gore, then Blood Red. The robes were then washed with Baal Red, and a mix of Badab Black for shading and to tone the red down a bit. Shining Gold was painted onto the robe trim, and upper shoulder armor. Highlights were applied with Burnished Gold, and then washed in Devlan Mud. The axe heads were painted with Boltgun Metal, then washed with Badab Black, and had Chainmail highlights, up to Mithril Silver on the edge of the blades applied. The axe handles were kept a basic Scorched Brown.
