• Space Marine Terminator

Got the latest White Dwarf yesterday with the free Terminator and Ork from the new Black Reach set. This is the first Terminator and Ork I've ever done before, so excitedly I started with the Terminator. Firstly, these new plastic models are very well done. They push fit together quickly and they look great! I started by cleaning of the mold lines on the figure, then undercoating in Chaos Black. I left the arms off for ease of painting, and started painting the red armor (these are Blood Angels) in Foundation Mechrite Red. It was then painted with Blood Red and given a wash of Magenta Ink. Finally a coat of Baal Red to take the shine off the Ink wash and provide some final shading. Edging and highlights are picked out with Blazing Orange. The leg insignia I painted with Boltgun Metal, then washed with Black Ink for shading. Another application of Boltgun Metal, then highlights of Chainmail. The helmet, chest insignia, belt insignia, and Terminator honors on the shoulder pad were painted with Shadow Gray. Then dry brushed with Fortress Gray, and a final dry brushing of Skull White. You want it to look white, but still maintain the shading to give definition to the individual parts and panels. The rebreather in front of the helmet was painted the same as the leg insignia. The eye lenses on the helmet were carefully repainted with Chaos Black, then Scab Red, a highlight of Blood Red, and finally little reflections of Skull White in the corner of the lenses. The various vents and exposed metal parts of the suits joints were painted with Boltgun Metal, and then washed with Black Ink to make them dark, but still leave on the metallic highlights on the raised parts. The lenses on the sensor pod were painted with Royal Blue, Ultramarines Blue, Ice Blue highlight, and finally brightest highlight in Skull White. Holy scriptures are written on the armor using Skull White. The hydraulic hose on the power fist is painted with Boltgun Metal and then washed with Black Ink. The segments in the hose are then repainted Boltgun Metal, carefully keeping the inner parts of the house dark. Highlights of Chainmail are applied along the side of the hose. The nozzle on the gauntlet flamer is painted Chaos Black, with a ring of Fortress Gray painted around the outside of the nozzle. The purity seal was painted with Bleached Bone, and the wax seal with Regal Blue, highlighted with Ultramarines Blue, and a final highlight of Ice Blue.

I'll have to order in some 40mm bases for the Terminators since they don't fit on the standard 25mm base. I've started putting Beeb's Marines on Industrial or Boilerplate bases from Back2Base-IX and they look awesome. Some of the larger bases are really nice with a good amount of interesting detail. Might even get a couple of 60mm ones for the Dreadnought too.
