• Sauron vs. Isildur

Just about finished painting Isildur hacking off Sauron's fingers with the shattered sword. Sauron is pretty much complete, except for the base. I'd quite like to do him on a lava base, but a generic Mordor base would probably be more in keeping with the theme.

Update:
I purchased some large lava bases from Back-2-Base-ix. After the usual clean up of the resin, I undercoated it in Chaos Black spray, then the lava flows were painted in several coats of Skull White to get a nice uniform white. The hardened lava was dry brushed in a few levels of gray, to add some color variation. The lava flow was painted Golden Yellow, the watered down Blazing Orange stippled and blended toward the harded flow. Then watered down Blood Red, and finally Red Gore around the edges of the dried lava. Allow some over stippling on the edges of the lava to provide the reflected surface light. Build up the lighting on the Red Gore, through Blood Red, and Blazing Orange. If necessary, you can go back with light washes of Blazing Orange and Golden Yellow to smooth out the blends. I also stippled in a watery mix of Bad Moon Yellow on the hottest parts of the lava. I still have to go back and put reflected lighting on Sauron's armor, and blacken (or brown) the rim around the base.
