• Snow Terrain [1]

I just completed a bunch of terrain for my friend Chris and his 6th Edition live podcast - check out Deepstrike Radio if you want to see what it's all about.

He had a Bastion set, a ruined Administratum set, a crashed Aquila lander, a hill, and a couple of craters. I used the recent Deathworld article in White Dwarf for some ideas for doing the snowy terrain theme.

Everything was assembled and then sprayed out in shades of grey, moving up to a brighter highlight for the features. So on the Administratum, I added a brighter highlight on the carved figures, or the aquila. The doors were painted in bronzes, and the flooring in steel. A base was cut out of MDF and detailed with some plasticard floor tiles on the interior, and some piles of rubble using cut up sprue.

The lander was painted up in Ultramarines colors (because my son thinks they're lame, so it was a bit of a joke!), with green glass in the windows, and the metallic parts in either bronzes or steel colors.

The crater was filled with plasterboard filler, and then hard globes of green stuff were pushed in to make the bubbles.

When everything was dry, it was sprayed with turquoise shading where the frost made sense to be on the models, then highlighting up through to a sky blue. A final highlight of white was then sprayed on top of that. PVA glue was then lumped on the surfaces of the model where I wanted the snow to collect, and GW snow was stuck on the glued areas.

Chris did up a light blue baseboard for the table, and then all the terrain pieces sat on top of that. The board looked fantastic with all the terrain setup on it, and I'm hoping we'll be able to get some games in on it.
