Battle Report: Blood Angels vs Space Wolves

We played in a Spearhead battle on the weekend - 750pts of Blood Angels vs Space Wolves. We didn't have enough units initially because we'd been told to just bring along some tanks to field, so we turned up with a selection - a Land Raider, Predator, Leman Russ, and Hammerhead.

The GW store guys kindly loaned us some additional units and we were able to field a Mechanised Assault Spearhead consisting of the Land Raider, Predator, and a Dreadnought. The Land Raider also included a squad of Terminators. Our opponent had a Land Raider, and a squad of Space Wolves Terminators with Wolf Lord. He was using the Land Raider as an Outrider Spearhead.

Initial roll off saw the Space Wolves go first after deploying in a wedge formation. The Terminators were embarked in the Land Raider. The Land Raider was behind a hill running which was horizontally bisecting the battlefield. A grouping of trees was on each opposing diagonal. The Blood Angels were deployed with the Dreadnought in front of the wedge, backed up by the Predator. The Land Raider remained in reserve, with the Terminators aboard. The Space Wolves Land Raider moved up the battlefield, and started to come around the corner of the hill. The Dreadnought moved along the line of the hill to intercept the Land Raider. The Predator moved along the hill away from the Land Raider. The Land Raider opened fire on the Dreadnought, which was left shaken after some hits. The Predator fired on the Land Raider but was unable to inflict any serious damage.

The next turn saw the Blood Angels Land Raider arrive on the battlefield from the rear corner of the Space Wolves territory. It moved in behind their Land Raider in a flanking maneuver and opened fire, damaging it and losing a weapon. The Space Wolves Terminators disembarked from the Land Raider, and set about attacking the Dreadnought, destroying it. The Predator move further back to the far edge of the hill, then opened fire on the Terminators, and killed two in a round of outstanding shooting. As the turn ended the Blood Angels were ahead, as they had their troops occupying the enemy territory.

The Space Wolves attempted to fire on the Predator, but were unsuccessful due to the Dreadnought's wreckage offering some cover. The Predator killed another marine, and wounded the Wolf Lord. The Land Raider opened fire on the Predator, but was not able to inflict any damage. The Blood Angels Land Raider fired and immobilised the Space Wolves Raider. The Space Wolves Terminators switched their attention to the Land Raider momentarily, but were unable to inflict any damage on it.

The Space Wolves Terminators fired on the Predator, and the Emperor smiled upon them, a lucky shot causing a catastrophic failure of the Predator. It exploded, but unfortunately just avoided taking any Space Wolves with it. The Blood Angels Land Raider fired on the Wolves, and killed some more troops, and the Wolf Lord.

The game ended with a draw for both sides. There was no clear victor, and the Space Wolves were saved from defeat by a some last turn luck.
