So I drew up plans for the missing side panel on some 2.5mm plasticard, and started cutting out the piece with an angle grinder and a thin blade which is usually used for cutting metal. So far it's cut easily (hell of lot easier than using a hobby knife), and I've cut the rounded corners in carefully. Then i've given it a light cleanup with some low grit sandpaper. It'd probably be easier with a Dremel, and I'm definitely starting to see the value in owning one. Next I carefully scored in the panel lines. I'll start cutting out the individual panels and details from thinner plasticard, and gluing it all together. I've also got some green stuff in case I need to do some puttying on it.
