• Wall of Martyrs [1]

I'd always liked the trenchwork sets on Forgeworld but couldn't afford to buy it, so when the Wall of Martyrs came out, I was really excited. Unfortunately it was still a bit pricey, so I'd resigned myself to not getting it, until I stumbled across it in one of the smaller gaming shops, and the price was right. Turned out to be a really good purchase. There is an amazing amount of plastic in this box set, including three Imperial Defence Lines, two Imperial Defence Emplacements, and a bunker. There's so much here, it would probably take me months to paint it all with a brush, but luckily I can use the airbrush.

All the parts were clipped off and seam lines trimmed up. The worst lines run around the middle of the brass colored walls in the photos, and required quite a bit of filing. Not sure why they had to use a two part mold for those parts, as they don't have any detail on the back side. Once everything was cleaned up, I hit it all with Black Vallejo primer. Then I sprayed all the metal flooring and dirt parts on the back and fronts of the walls with brown paint. The walls and bunker was painted with a mid grey color. All the metal wall shields were painted separately in old gold and then washed with Devlan Mud once dry to make them look brassy. They were given some edging with silver to show some wear on the metals and make the detail pop out.

The floors were then dry brushed with orange for a rusty look, and then dry brushed with Silver for scuffing on the metal gratings, bolts, etc. The grey walls were dry brushed with Astronomicon Grey  to pick up the surface detail and provide some edging. The lights were airbrushed with yellow to show them lit and casting some light on the bunker.

The ground was drybrushed with Bleached Bone. The dead Cadians armor and equipment including the supply boxes was painted with Catachan Green, then edged with Goblin Green. The barrels or jerry cans were painted with orange and shaded with Devlan Mud. The skeletons were painted with Rakarth Flesh, then highlighted with Ushtabi Bone. A final wash of Devlan Mud dirtied everything up. The insignias were painted on the armor, equipment, and supply boxes with White Scar.
